Development Process

This game costs about 4 weeks to implement. So, I will address the progress in each week below.

  • For the first week, we decide which theme of the game we want to do. We listed several possible options which include a car racing game, a FPS game, a prison escape game and now a third person zombie shooting game. We decided to use the top-down view mode with two joysticks, the left one for moving and the right one for shooting with player rotation. We then decided to have 3 levels which are desert, forest, and city scenes in it. We imported 4 scenes for our shooting game. We built the movement joystick and direction joystick.
  • For the second and third week, we finished building the scenes and put the player and the enemy AIs onto the scene to test their attacks. We modified the attacking speed as well as the moving speed of the character. We placed our focus mainly on the first scene which is the desert scene. We also made the menu scene and incorporated into the game in the fourth week. The shooting ability for the player was also implemented during the third week, when the player using the right joystick, the facial direction will change with bullet shooting out.
  • For the last week, we bounded the scenes and further tested the enemy AIs and decided to complete an upgrade system. We tested both the player and the enemies on different scenes to make sure all of them are working as expected. We implemented the upgrade system, the soul of the zombie will be collected in the chest after their death, and the player can get these souls after she touched the chest (a trigger). We came up with the idea that the soul can be used for upgrades and go to the next level. We also decided to add the Anubis head standing on each scene, because we have some desert scenes and the soul, the Egyptian Death God Anubis matches the general style of our game. Once, the player collected the enough soul, she can touch the Anubis statue and go to the next level. We also collected all team members’ works together and test them together to make sure the overall game is completed.

Feedback:

After playtesting in the previous weeks, our players told us that the game environment looks great and the zombie theme looks very compatible to what we are trying to do. Some issues will be like there are still some minor places where exists air wall but these bugs can be avoided by going nearby. In addition, the player also is expecting to have diverse assignments so that it can make the game more interesting like rescuing civilians.
